SmartScan is an experimental prototype of a lightweight resolver that can connect a product's barcode to the corresponding product web page provided by the brand owner or manufacturer.

At present, the prototype only has a small number of records in its federated database and only GTIN-12 (UPC-12) and GTIN-13 (EAN-13) barcodes are supported at present. This prototype does not work with ISBN barcodes on books (e.g. barcodes that start with 978).
